I started using the Your Baby Can Read programme with my son, who has Down Syndrome, when he was 8 months old. He read his first word (using sign language)at 13 months and completed the starter book at about 16 months, by 24 months he had completed the programme. He is now 36 months old and reads simple books such as the Mo Willems Elephant and Piggy series independently.
We watched the DVDs twice a day and read the books 2-3 times daily, signing all the time – every single day!
Children with Down Syndrome usually learn to read using the whole word method which these books and DVDs use. Reading has also been shown to enhance general language ability in these children which is why I decided to try this method.
I love that my son feels bright and confident when he reads and his speech and language skills are very good now. It took many, many uncertain hours to get here, wondering if anything was going in, but I would urge parents to give reading a try.
We’ve just started on Maths now using Numicon, here’s hoping we have the same success!

I ordered this product, they charge all regular payments, when I finished paying the shipped a second set and charged me for it. I sent the product back and they credit only a portion of what they over charged (credit $81.60),

My son started reading before 18mos (somewhere between 15 – 18 mos) so it has been my experience that the Your Baby Program works. He started watching them at 4 mos old (maybe 3 1/2 mos) so he was a captive audience. I have several friends who have the product and their children absolutely hated the program. They all showed it to their kids after they were 1 or 2 yrs so that may have something to do with it. Also, my husband was a natural early reader (began reading at 4) and late talker like my son so genetics may play a part. I ordered my set off Amazon for about $75, NOT THROUGH THE COMPANY, so I didn’t have to deal w/ the hefty $250 charge or the rude CSRs. I would encourage parents to buy this for their children, esp children younger than 1 yr, via used or new from Amazon NOT through the company.
However once my son became about 2 yrs old he became extremely bored with these DVDs and now prefers Brainy Baby.
Fast shipping and the product works, there was just one problem. A couple of the word cards were spelled wrong. example, the word zebra was spelled zedra. I don’t know how that is going to help my baby to read:)
The product was in great condition, however shipping was not as quick as I have gotten accustomed (shipped the day after order has been placed)
